Your Lot. Your Gel. Your Data.
When you buy a purified protein, you check the Certificate of Analysis, look at the reported purity, and make decisions based on it. It’s worth asking whether the gel image you’re looking at came from the lot you’re actually buying.
Representative gel images are common in the life sciences. They show what a preparation typically looks like, not what your specific lot looked like when it was tested. At Athens Bioscience, every lot manufactured from 2026 onward gets its own gel, its own densitometry, and its own documented results.
Why lot-specific data matters
Even with established, well-controlled processes, individual lots vary. If you’re developing a diagnostic assay, qualifying a raw material, or keeping a production process consistent, you need the analytical data for the material in your hands, not an image from a previous run.
What our purity documentation includes
A purity percentage on its own doesn’t tell you much. For each lot, we provide:
- The actual gel image. Each lot is run on the electrophoretic method suited to the protein, such as SDS-PAGE or native agarose electrophoresis.
- Quantitative densitometry. We measure relative band intensities to calculate electrophoretic purity, so the reported number is backed by measurement rather than visual judgment.
- A lot-specific Certificate of Analysis. The results are tied directly to the material you receive.
Electrophoretic purity is one part of protein characterization. Identity, biological activity, and other properties may need additional testing. But it’s an important part, and we think you should be able to see it.
What about earlier lots?
Lot-specific gels and densitometry are standard for every lot we’ve manufactured since January 2026. Some earlier lots are still in inventory. If you’re ordering from one of those, ask us, and we’ll tell you what documentation is available for that lot before you buy.
Same spec, different information
Two suppliers can both list a protein as ≥95% pure. One shows a representative SDS-PAGE image on its website. The other gives you the gel and densitometry from your lot. Both meet the spec, but only one lets you check the material you bought. It also holds us accountable: when we report a purity result, you can see the evidence behind it.
Manufactured and tested in Athens, Georgia
We manufacture native proteins from biological source materials at our facility in Athens, Georgia, including human transferrins, lipoproteins, apolipoproteins, immunoglobulins, enzymes, and other specialized proteins for research and diagnostic use. Because we purify and characterize everything ourselves, we have direct visibility into the process and results behind every product we ship.
We also work directly with customers on bulk quantities, custom requirements, and ongoing supply programs. For current lots, this documentation comes with your order. You don’t have to request it.
